Chatsworth Stable Block

Client  Chatsworth Settlement Trust

Status  Completed

Sector  Heritage/ Leisure & Hospitality

Peak Architects were appointed to convert the final quadrant within the Stable block courtyard to provide new retail and restaurant space; this included new toilets and plant enclosures. Initial consultation with Historic English and the Peak Park Conservation Officer identified that the principle of development was acceptable but there concerns related to the servicing strategy and integration into the existing building fabric.

Our approach was to engage with a mechanical and electrical contractor at the design stage to survey the existing services and come up with a co-ordinated servicing strategy. Our aim was to integrate services in a way that reduced their visual impact (integration of underfloor heating and perimeter trench heating ducts) and where visible allowed the services to be lightweight and not clash with the existing structure; the latter was achieved by a lightweight coffered suspended services duct with integral lighting; power and ventilation.
