From the outset the over-arching strategy for the conversion of this 1950’s bungalow, which was bought at auction by the client, was to deliver a sustainable modern home which integrated the best of modern technology with traditional detailing and vernacular materials and form.

Peak Architects approach to sustainability is to get the basics right before we consider renewable energy sources; ass such we adopted ‘Passivhaus’ principles to the design of the property. These included over cladding the building with insulated render; installing triple glazed windows and controlling the air within the building by installing a whole house ventilation system with integral heat exchanger.

Forms of renewable energy were considered and following soil testing it was considered that Photovoltaic Panels were the only sustainable and efficient renewable energy source that could be used and a bank of panels was installed to achieve 4kWp of power.
