This award-winning project involved Peak Architects' respectful refurbishment of a neglected Grade I* listed former Potting Shed, on the Chatsworth Estate, into a flexible learning centre for the Devonshire Educational Trust.
The result is a large activity room, providing a flexible classroom environment, with an adjacent smaller teaching space for smaller group activities.
The design works with the challenging constraints of a Grade I* listing, revealing and exposing original features to provide a rich material palette, contrasting with understated interventions.

Materials were sourced from the Chatsworth Estate and recycled materials specified where possible.
The design utilises excess heat from the greenhouse pumps housed within the basement. This is recycled using a MVHR unit to provide additional heating and ventilation throughout the building.
