Peak-Architects

Sectors: Heritage & Conservation

We don’t impose on old buildings. We work with them. At Peak, we design within historic environments, conservation areas and listed buildings with care and respect. We focus on understanding what’s already there, the materials, spaces and stories, and build from that insight.

Sensitive, informed interventions

Where change is needed, we design it to be reversible and discreet. New elements are carefully placed, often as freestanding structures, allowing flexibility for future generations.

Experience you can trust

Our studio is based in a Grade II listed building, so we understand the realities first-hand. We have strong relationships with conservation officers, Historic England and estates, and a proven record of securing planning and listed building consent.

Trusted by clients such as the Chatsworth and Wentworth Estates, our approach is grounded in conservation, protection and thoughtful conversion. We preserve character while enabling sustainable new uses.
Our heritage & conservation principles include:
Use of traditional materials and construction techniques where possible which preserve and enhance the building’s local context.
Sensitive integration of sustainable construction methods and technology.
Placing new elements and facilities as free standing ‘sculptural elements’ within the spaces.
Where possible, off-site manufacturing is promoted to lessen works on site to reduce the programme, impact on the site and improve build quality.
In developing and implementing any heritage project, early stakeholder engagement is essential in ensuring an agreement on the approach, layout and methodology.
