It’s always a real thrill when we get to see our projects in their full glory so we were over the moon to receive the final images from a recent professional shoot at one of our completed residential projects in south west Sheffield. The weather was definitely on our side, providing the perfect backdrop for this truly stunning home.
The client approached Peak Architects, with a clear vision, following the purchase of the property adjacent to their existing home. Their dream was to seamlessly integrate the two semi-detached Edwardian properties as they would have been formerly. Essential to the client's specification was the reinstating of the original elements, both internally and externally, carrying through the traditional features with the general upgrade of their newly purchased property.
Key to the brief was the conversion of the characteristic small rooms on the ground floor into one large open plan kitchen/ living space and to maximise on natural daylight. Peak Architects identified the coach house and link to the existing home as the perfect volume for this concept; our final designs incorporated a vaulted ceiling, new ridge rooflight which extended to form a garden room and utility room, transforming the previous kitchen into an adjacent family room. The result provided a completely different spatial experience to the rest of the property without feeling out of place or too contemporary.
The removal of a secondary staircase and replication of original doorways, corridors and flooring were vital elements of the re-integration. Careful research was undertaken to replicate the detailing and form to create the appearance they have always been there.
In terms of the exterior, further work involved the replacement, restoration and installation of existing roofs, windows and period interior features, external landscaping, new entrance gates and driveway.
We love how this Sheffield home refurbishment and extension exemplifies, with a sympathetic approach, how a building's original features can be brought back to life.
